Runners looking for their next big challenge still have time to sign up to the ABP Southampton Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K.
Organisers have extended the deadline after an influx of entries over the weekend. Originally entries were due to close on March 15 but, after more than 500 people signed up in one weekend, the deadline has been set back to March 20.
Already more than 8000 people are set to lace up their trainers and take part on April 23. More than half are taking part in the half marathon, 10k and mile fun run distances, while the remainder will run the full 26.2 mile distance.
Chris Rees, race director for the ABP Marathon said: “The reaction to the race this year has been phenomenal. Over 750 people signed up in the last week so we couldn’t possibly close entries when people clearly still want to sign up!”
After general entries close on March 20, there will be a charity exclusive sign up option where runners can choose to run for charities such as Macmillan, Centre for Cancer Immunology, Society of St James and Naomi House with a dedicated charity space. In the past two years of the event, over £300,000 has been raised for charity and the organisers hope that the 2017 event will raise an additional £200,000.
