This month involved a long run across the pond…
My latest long run has got to be my best yet. I’m used to tackling the hills of South East London and looping the loop as I try t add more miles to my known routes every week, but this week I was on holiday in New York so my long run was an unknown route but a really, really fun one.
Starting in Queen’s, I headed straight for the bridge across to Manhattan, then six or so blocks across to Central Park. It was a Sunday morning – I chose this as I thought it would be quiet on the roads; one thing New York could do for runners is to make pedestrian crossings a bit speedier as waiting for the green man is almost like a complete warm-down every time – but the park was bursting with runners.
I’ve never seen anything anywhere near like it in London, apart from for organised races, and it was a real boost. This was to be my first 16-miler so I needed all the energy I could get. The park is massive and I actually only needed to do one and a half loops before heading back across the river for a hearty breakfast.
