We’ve covered a LOT of miles since our last blog, training has really stepped up a gear as we get closer to the big day, the London Marathon


Susie has freshened up her training routine to include hill reps, sprints and a few spinning classes. Meanwhile I’ve kept my focus on running three times a week with two club nights and a long run at the weekends…and I also try to squeeze in a local Park Run if I can find the time.marathon blogger

Susie has been really happy with her training progress in recent weeks. The longer days and Spring light has provided new inspiration, it’s really encouraged her to get out in the early evening and run. With training runs getting longer, I just wish I had more time for training in the gym and getting on the spinning bike for strengthening as well as getting the miles in. Not to mention I also need some quality family time.

Our latest triumph was the Trimpell 20 miler. In preparation, Susie and I were trail running up and down the river. This was great training for a really enjoyable race that started at Lancaster Castle. We both decided to test our Marathon preparation and load up on the carbs in the days leading up to the 20 mile event – lots of pasta and bread really made a difference (as well as a healthy cake or two!).

We have even started to introduce supplements into our long runs at every 3 miles, I have a gel and Susie has a tablet. This made a huge difference to our energy levels during the Trimpell 20 miler and it was great that we both made it round safely.

Overall, the training is really starting to pay off! We are both eating healthily and having a running mate to train with and push each other on, especially a friend like Susie, is so positive. Three weeks till the big day!
