When a pair of New Balance Fresh Foams landed in the office, our tester wasted no time in trying them on and ended up wearing them for the rest of the day, which speaks volumes about how comfortable they are!
This neutral shoe is designed to work well at any distance, with a one-piece Fresh Foam midsole providing a super-smooth run. The foam sole is formed in a tessellating pattern that adapts differently on the inside and outside of the foot for maximum flexibility, while an engineered mesh in the vamp is designed to give runners room for natural toe splay as they log long miles. But how does it perform? Our tester took them out for a series of runs, including a 5k, 10k and 15k. The verdict was overall very good; this shoe is cushioned to the max, making it super-comfortable for longer runs. It felt stable and strong, without any pinch along the foot or toe box. The shoe performed well over the shortest distance, but if you’re going for speed you might prefer a more streamlined shoe, like the Vazee, as this does have quite a chunky design in comparison. For the average runner though, this is a great all-rounder.
The New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 is available at newbalance.co.uk for £115.
