The sun drenched Etihad Campus was the venue for the UKFast We Love Manchester 10k, where over 2,500 runners took part in ‘The Peoples Race’ on the 9th July.
The Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Eddy Newman started the race at the impressive Regional Athletics Track with hundreds of spectators cheering the competitors out of the stadium and along the 10k route.
Defending men’s champion Mohammad Aburezeq running for Altrincham & District AC retained his title in an impressive time of 30 minutes and 50 seconds, followed by Alistair Watson just 19 seconds behind and Southampton AC’s Richard Waldron rounding off the top three, in a time of 32 minutes 11 seconds.

Sports Tours International Race Director Graham Jackson said “The UKFast We Love Manchester 10k once again showed the passion that people have for running. Wkhether they are serious runners or runners that do it for the challenge or to raise money for charity, they all ran together to play their part in a magnificent day”.
Club Runners and Fun Runners alike completed the 10k course and performed admirably in the twenty plus degree heat to record impressive finish times, certainly boosted along the way by the crowds of cheering well wishers and local residents.
Title Sponsors UKFast took home the Business Trophy Cup as they did in 2016 – living up to their name of being the fastest team around and in the Affiliated Club Categories, Chorlton Runners were victorious on the Female category and Salford Harriers took it for the Men.
With the 10k run completed, it was then time for the Under 8’s to take to the track in the ‘Toddler Trot’. Over two hundred boys and girls ran the full 400 metres which brought the curtain down on a fantastic event.
