The organisers of the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO have announced The Mission to Seafarers as an Official Charity Partner for the 2018 event which takes place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th March 2018.
The Mission to Seafarers is a UK-based charity that operates internationally to provide help and support to seafarers around the globe. It has grown to become one of the largest port-based welfare operators in the world, providing a service in some 200 ports, 365 days a year, across 50 countries. The charity will be cooperating with the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO in order to raise valuable funds, with a specific focus on the work of The Mission in Cyprus where it operates in the port of Limassol and helps seafarers regardless of nationality, culture or faith.
The cause is expected to be of particular interest to local runners who work in Cypriot-based shipping companies, as well as to international runners interested in combining running with a business trip to Cyprus. For those taking part will have the satisfaction of contributing to the vital work the charity does in providing practical, emotional and spiritual support to seafarers. Piracy, shipwreck, abandonment, and separation from loved ones are just some of the problems faced by merchant seafarers in keeping our global economy afloat, making The Mission to Seafarers relevant to a great many of us.
Those wishing to support The Mission to Seafarers have a fantastic choice of races to choose from at the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO. Taking place over the course of the weekend are the AIMS-accredited OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO, the Limassol Half Marathon, the Petrolina 10K Energy Race, the 5K City Race and the PrimeTel 5K Corporate Race.
The choice of race distances makes the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO suitable for runners of all ages and abilities. The PrimeTel 5K Corporate Race is particularly suited to businesses and employees looking for an excellent team-building and fitness-boosting opportunity. It is also an ideal platform for charity fundraising, and it is hoped that companies entering this event will adopt The Mission to Seafarers as their team charity.
An extra incentive to #RunLimassol for The Mission to Seafarers is a special race package that has been created exclusively for the charity. Designed to offer a great-value and hassle-free experience, the bespoke package for The Mission to Seafarers runners includes: three nights’ accommodation on a half-board basis at the 4-star Atlantica Miramare hotel; admission to the race of choice; admission to the pasta party; official race t-shirt; return airport transfers; transportation to the start line and race pack delivery to the hotel. The package price is €450 for runners and €400 for non-runners.
There is no doubt that this is a great opportunity to take part in one of Europe’s most exciting sporting events whilst raising money for a worthy cause and enjoying a superb weekend away. The OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO will be celebrating its 12th anniversary in 2018 and is looking forward to welcoming athletes from near and far wanting to enjoy the flat and fast course, friendly atmosphere, warm spring weather and stunning natural scenery. It is the perfect spring race for runners of all abilities, from first-time marathon runners through to professional athletes looking to achieve a PB.
