F1’s Suzi Perry launches a new race circuit running event
Broadcaster Suzi Perry has helped to launch The Great Run Company’s newest running event at Donington Park.
The Sun Donington Summer Running Festival will take place on 26 June at the racing circuit in the East Midlands. Distances include a 10-mile, 10k, 5k and Family Mile event, allowing runners of all ages and abilities to take on a challenge while enjoying a summer festival atmosphere.
Suzi, who presents the BBC’s Formula 1 coverage, is keen for runners to race at a venue normally home to fast cars, petrol and the smell of burning rubber. She said: “It’s unique, and that for me is the biggest selling point of the run; it’s a great idea.” The festival will be themed around motor sports, and runners will be waved off by chequered flags and the sound of revving engines.
Participants can re-fuel at each of the pit stops around the course. All 5k, 10k and 10-mile finishers will receive a t-shirt, medal and finisher’s bag. The Family Mile is open to children aged 5 to 15 years. After finishing, children will be rewarded with a medal to recognise their achievement. “It’s a good opportunity for the family to get together,” said Suzi. “It’s not competitive, it’s just about getting your kicks on and getting out there and having a laugh. There will be so much going on around the event too, with bands playing – it’ll be a real carnival atmosphere. There’ll be stuff for all the family. It’s going to be one of those great days out.” The day starts with the 10-mile senior race, and ends with the Family Mile
