Run around famous RSPB lakes for charity
The Fen Drayton 10k and 2.5k Fun Run & Family Fun Day is now in its sixth year. These fantastic charity runs take place in Fen Drayton village, Cambridgeshire, affording competitors excellent views of the beautiful RSPB lakes for which Fen Drayton is famous.
Proceedings kick off at 10.15am with a fun, energetic warm up for the 10.30am 10k start. The course is multi terrain – but flat – so a great PB course with super friendly marshals. There will be chip timing, photos and a medal for all finishers. Trophies will be presented for first three males and first three females. All monies raised from the day are given to charities that support people in the local community and area. A small team of volunteers are committed and proud to once again be raising much needed funds for the local primary school. Additional charities this year are EACH, The Willow Foundation and RSPB.
While the 10k race is taking place, there will be Aquazorbs, bouncy castles, stalls and refreshments (including a hog roast and bar) to entertain the spectators young and old near the finish area. The fun run gets going at 1pm with a warm up provided by Sports Leaders from Swavesey Village College, who also marshal the fun run. This run is fancy dress if you like and it is not chip timed. All are welcome, from children who take it very seriously and sprint the whole way round, to toddlers zig-zagging along the paths picking flowers as they go, to kids in buggies and grandparents being pulled along.
The emphasis is on children (and grown ups) getting involved, getting active and having some fun. All finishers across the line will receive a lolly and a medal and some light hearted certificates will be handed out at the presentation.
Entry for the 10k is online only. Fun Run online entry is £5 (adults accompanying under 10s free) and £7 on the day. For more information and to register see website. Follow the event on Facebook: Fen Drayton 10K, Fun Run & Family Fun Day or Twitter: @FenInfo
