Open-top bus packed with Santas launches Liverpool event
A group of 40 Santas have toured the city on an open-top bus to launch this year’s Liverpool Santa Dash.
The countdown is now on to the Radio City Liverpool Santa Dash on Sunday, 4 December – the UK’s biggest festive fun run and this is its 13th year.
It was a case of all aboard when a whole host of familiar faces including actors from Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Benidorm and Love Island hopped onto the Liverpool City Sights open-top bus with Father Christmas to take the Santa Dash message on the road.
They joined Liverpool actors Philip Olivier and Kurtis Stacey, sponsors, and representatives and mascots from the event’s official charities – Radio City’s Cash For Kids, Everton in the Community, and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.
A team of 20 personal training and fitness instructor students from The City of Liverpool College also took part. They are volunteering at the Santa Dash.
The group of Santas and guests met at Pier Head Liverpool, where the Radio City Santa Dash starts on Canada Boulevard under the gaze of the iconic Liver Birds and Three Graces – the Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building, and Port Of Liverpool Building.
After posing for pictures with The Beatles’ statue, the Santas boarded the Liverpool City Sights bus – the instantly recognisable red tour buses which offer live on-board commentary – to tour the city and take in the city’s key landmarks.
Highly regarded as the city’s kickstart to Christmas, the Radio City Liverpool Santa Dash in association with Blue Air, promises a day of festive fun and Christmas cheer for all the family – and snow is even guaranteed!
Organisers BTR Liverpool are encouraging Santas to sign up to make the 5K festive fun run bigger than ever before in a bid to win back the world title from Las Vegas. More than 1,500 Santas have already registered.
The Radio City Liverpool Santa Dash starts at Pier Head Liverpool at 9.30am and finishes outside Liverpool Town Hall. After dashing round the city, the Santas collect a commemorative medal when they complete the fun run. A Santa suit is included in the entry fee.
The little ones also have their very own fun run – the 1K Mini Dash is for youngsters aged 12 and under. It starts in Castle Street when the main Santa Dash has finished, and also finishes at Liverpool Town Hall.
The event’s official charity partners are Radio City’s Cash For Kids, Everton in the Community, and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice through the BTR Footsteps Fundraisers initiative. They all turned out in force to be part of the official launch, bringing with them their official mascots.
